OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites applicants for a tenure-track position in history of modern East Asia to begin September 1, 2022. Geographic and/or thematic specialization are open and scholars focused on pre-modern East Asia with interest and demonstrated ability to teach the modern period are welcome to apply.

 

The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong research agenda and a commitment to teaching historical content, skills, and methods to undergraduates. The teaching load of three courses per semester involves some combination of the following: intro-level courses such as East Asian Civilization and World History in fulfillment of the core requirement as well as upper-level courses in their area of specialization for undergraduate history majors/minors and students in the International Studies program. The History Department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in teaching, research or service toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

A PhD is required (U.S. or Foreign Equivalent) or alternatively ABD will also be considered at the initial rank of instructor. All applicants must have demonstrable skills necessary for excellence in teaching.
