The Department of Psychology at the University of St. Thomas invites applications for a limited-term (up to 5 years) visiting position at the Assistant Professor Level in Developmental Psychology beginning on September 1, 2020. Teaching responsibilities would include developmental psychology courses (e.g., Infancy and Childhood, Lifespan Development, Adolescence, and Adulthood and Aging) and may also include General Psychology.  Candidates will also be expected to engage in scholarship that includes undergraduate students.

The University of St. Thomas embraces diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all. Our convictions of dignity, diversity and personal attention call us to embody and champion a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.  We welcome applicants of diverse races, ethnicities, geographic origins, gender identities, ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, religions, work experience, physical and intellectual abilities, and financial means. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. This commitment is consistent with our university mission: Inspired by Catholic intellectual tradition the University of St. Thomas educates students to be morally responsible leaders who think critically, act wisely and work skillfully to advance the common good.

While it is not a requirement for the position, the department is particularly interested in candidates with teaching and/or research experience on race and development (e.g., socialization of race, children’s experiences of ethnic identity, achievement gap).

For more information on the department, see Department of Psychology website.

Applicants must hold at least a PhD or ABD status nearing completion (with appointment at the rank of Instructor) in Psychology.  The department especially seeks individuals able to work with diverse students and colleagues, who have experience with a variety of teaching methods and perspectives to create inclusive classrooms, and who are committed to working in a liberal arts setting. In addition to teaching, the successful applicant will be expected to become involved in departmental, university, and community activities.

For full consideration, materials should be submitted by October 18, 2019, however the position will remain open until filled. Screening interviews will be conducted and will be followed by a campus visit.  Applicants should submit an application online at www.stthomas.edu/jobs which should include a cover letter indicating areas of teaching, one-page teaching philosophy, curriculum vitae or resume, and evidence of teaching effectiveness.

The applicant’s teaching philosophy statement should include information on the applicant’s commitment to diversity including information on experience with and/or ideas for creating an inclusive classroom.

Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be forwarded via e-mail to Dr. Greg Robinson-Riegler, Chair, (glriegler@stthomas.edu).  If you have questions regarding the position, please contact Dr. Robinson-Riegler at 651-962-5034 or glriegler@stthomas.edu  AA/EOE
